Today, as I was lifting weights at the gym, I had one of those moments that reminded me of why I do what I do. Amidst the clanking of metal and the rhythmic hum of treadmills, I caught the eye of a young girl, no older than sixteen. Her smile was radiant, a beacon of light cutting through the mundane routine of my day. It was a simple gesture, yet it had a profound impact—like a gentle reminder from the universe to pause and reflect.
In our busy lives, where we juggle responsibilities and chase after endless to-do lists, it’s easy to forget the little things that truly matter. That smile was a reminder of the power of connection, the essence of community, and the importance of family. It slowed me down, grounding me in the present moment, and reminded me of my purpose.
Throughout my career, I’ve fought tirelessly for children, advocating for their rights and working to create environments where they can thrive. I stand tall with intensity, fueled by the belief that every child deserves the chance to choose who they are, unburdened by unrealistic societal expectations. This mission is not just a job for me—it’s a calling. I know who I am, and I find calm in the storm, a serene power that drives me forward.
Nature and nurture coexist within my soul, and they thrive on purpose. I am not perfect, nor do I strive to be. Instead, I embrace the 80/20 principle: 80 percent of myself that I like and 20 percent that I acknowledge as opportunities for growth. This principle extends to all my relationships, fostering healthy connections that celebrate individuality and encourage authenticity.
Building communities is about more than just bringing people together; it’s about creating spaces where everyone feels valued and included. It’s about nurturing environments where kids can explore their identities and passions without fear of judgment or pressure to conform. In these communities, we can all thrive, embracing our strengths and learning from our imperfections.
As I left the gym today, I carried that young girl’s smile with me—a symbol of hope and a reminder of the power of small moments. I am committed to continuing my journey, fighting for children and building communities where they can flourish. Together, we can create a world where every child has the freedom to be who they truly are, supported by a network of love and acceptance.
In the end, it’s these connections that make us heroes in our own right, not through grand gestures, but through the simple act of being present, being kind, and being true to ourselves and others. Let’s build a future where every smile has the power to change a day, a life, and ultimately, the world.
Now, I help individuals and professionals build sustainable communities that work for us not just me.
FYI- Apples don’t fall from the tree. I know what I know- the young girl has one amazing father whom knows what he is doing.
